We are EXPANDING!!!!
Our current space was a perfect "starter" space for us, but the approximately 300 square feet of actual retail space that we have is just WAY too small for us. We will soon be relocated to a much larger space. I am so excited that we will (hopefully) be able to offer a breastfeeding nook! We will still be located in the Historic Valley Junction area of West Des Moines, IA, but we will be moving onto 5th St. What does this mean for our wonderful customers?!? More fun products!! My husband, Tommy, and I will be attending a trade show in Las Vegas in mid-September to look for new products to bring into the store. If you have any requests, now is the time to voice them!
We will be moving the store August 23rd - 25th, so we will be CLOSED on those days. If all goes well, we will re-open in our new space Wednesday, August 26th. I will keep you posted if that changes.
Our new address, as of August 26th, 2009, will be:
130A 5th St.
West Des Moines, IA 50265
As a consequence of closing the store August 23rd -25th, we have rescheduled the Cloth Diaper 101 class that was previously scheduled for 5:30pm on Monday, August 24th. This class will now be held at 5:30pm on Monday, August 17th. It will be held in our current store at 511 Elm St.
Vegas, baby! ... let it ride!
As mentioned above, Tommy & I will be in Las Vegas at the ABC Expo in mid-September. As a consequence, the store will be closed Tuesday, September 15th; Wednesday, September 16th; and the morning of Thursday, September 17th. We WILL be open from 2:30pm until 8:00pm on Thursday, September 17th, so come on down to Valley Junction for the farmers market, and check out our new space!
Speaking of the farmers market, in an effort to reduce parking problems and traffic congestion on farmers market Thursdays in Valley Junction, there is a new shuttle service that started this week! The shuttle is free to ride. You can park at Hillside Elementary at 8th & Hillside, and the shuttle will take you to 5th & Maple. The return shuttle will then pick you up at 5th & Maple. There will be two buses running, so the most time you should have to wait for a shuttle is around 5 minutes and the service will run from 4pm to 9pm. Here's the best part...the first 200 cars that park and ride the shuttle EACH Thursday will receive one $5 coupon good at any participating Valley Junction merchant or vendor!!! (Good toward purchases of $5 or more and valid until October 2nd, 2009.) Little Padded Seats is among the merchants honoring these coupons (in-store only). So, please come out and support your local farmers and merchants! And PLEASE, be mindful of Valley Junction neighbors as it relates to parking (code enforcement is very strict) and PLEASE, use the trash receptacles provided throughout the district. Thank you so much!
Some of our new products are in (they will be making it to the website soon):
- LilyPadz nursing pads - These are made of silicone. They put slight pressure on the nipple to stop the flow of milk to prevent leaks. They form to the breast so there are no unsightly nursing pad "rings" on your shirt. No bulky cloth nursing pads that can leak. You can swim in them, go strapless, or braless. Great for overnight too!!
- Thirsties Duo-wrap - This is the same great Thirsties cover, only in a two size system! Size 1 fits babies from 6-18 lbs. and Size 2 fits babies from 18-40 lbs!
- FuzziBunz OS pocket diapers - These great diapers have unique adjustable elastic in the waist and leg casings. We've had many customers ask us about them, now we have them!
- Nellie's PVC-Free Dryer Balls - Finally an eco friendly version of the popular dryer balls! No PVC!!
- Fragrance sticks for Nellie's PVC-Free Dryer Balls - Lavender, Linen and Simply Fresh scents. These fragrance sticks go inside the PVC-free dryer balls. (Not recommended for use with cloth diapers because they do contain soy wax).

A diaper by any other name...
The word diaper originally referred to the type of cloth rather than its use; "diaper" was the term for a pattern of small repeated geometric shapes, and later came to describe a white cotton or linen fabric with this pattern. The first cloth diapers consisted of a special type of soft tissue sheet, cut into geometric shapes. This type of pattern was called diapering and eventually gave its name to the cloth used to make diapers and then to the diaper itself. This usage stuck in the United States and Canada, but in Britain the word nappy took its place. Most sources believe nappy is a diminutive form of the word napkin.more
